Opto Endstop

Here are some photos of the ponoko reprap’s opto endstops. I used teflon tape to secure the opto flags.

I do not know the exact function of the above mechanism. It is my sense that it is very crude. I think ballscrews driven by stepper motors (and thier mating controllers) shoud be looked at. No need to have mechanical stops. Just program the controllers. The beaded chain looks like a toy. I have never seen exposed resistors like that.

Am I missing something.
